Chow Kit Information

One of Kuala Lumpur’s most infamous sub-districts, Chow Kit is located approximately two kilometres north of Chinatown along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. At the northern end of the street is the Bazaar Baru Chow Kit which is the largest wet market in the city and one of its most popular tourist attractions. A gaggle of stalls laden with fish, meat, vegetables, spices, tofu and fruit crowd the pavement here; crabs and lobsters scuttle around in shallow tubs of water while vendors entreat you to sample their goods. It is not just food – there are merchants selling cheap second-hand clothes, shoes and DVDs; meanwhile if you’ve got a yen to try local specialties head for the food stalls at the northern end of the souk. KL’s ‘Red Light District’, Chow Kit is easily accessible via the Chow Kit Monorail station as well as the nearby PWTC LRT station. The area plays host to a wide range of accommodation options ranging from top-end choices to some of KL’s best budget hotels, guesthouses and hostels.
