The 66 square meter (710 square foot) Penthouse located on the top floor of the AKWA Guesthouse in on of the 2 of the AKWA Building wings on Chewang Beach road. The room is a generous Pop Art Inspired Funky Studio which includes all modern conveniences. It boasts a luxurious Bathroom with a variety of luxurious Toiletries, a private bath tub overlooking the terrace with views to Chaweng Beach. Boasting a huge 32 square meter (345 square foot) Terrace which encompasses 2 Teak Sun Beds, out door dinning accommodating 4 with Sweeping 180 Degree Views across the CBD through to a direct view to Chaweng Beach and the Sea. "The Little Things"
The AKWA experience is like no other. Be it the initial warm greeting by Tim or Lee or the special touches during the stay that convince you that you are amongst close friends of long standing, the AKWA feel is unique. The Bar and Restaurant provide the perfect venue to unwind from a hectic day on glorious Chaweng beach. The vibe is terrific - from the splashes of Pop art colour through to the sounds of Chili Pepper Funk at night. The bar became our home away from home. You see AKWA will be what ever you want it to be. Tim and Lee go out of their way to make sure that they give you what you are looking for - be it a certain song or an entire play list put together based on a conversation you only hazily remember having the night before...nothing is too much to ask. The rooms are accessed by stairs that despite a steep appearance did not confound us at any time during our stay regardless of how comfortable we had become at the bar....And the stairs are worth climbing as the rooms are also a unique signature of AKWA. Comfort with a capital C and practicality are two things that come to mind and both reflect Tim's ample experience in the high end Hotel and hospitality industry. We have been coming to Samui for Seven years and have stayed at AKWA twice......from the Penthouse to the standard room the experience is second to none.....It's great to be able to head overseas and stay with friends......

"Went back for more!"
Three months after my first AKWA stay, I couldnt wait to get back for more! This time stayed 5 nights in room 302 - the same room I stayed in May 2007. It was great again! Tim makes everyone feel special and truely welcome whatever time of the day it is. The new menu holders are stunning - but how to manage the cocktail list of 176 cocktails is still a challenge. Bar Manager Lee whipped up some late night delights that went extremely well with the banana pancakes from the barrow man! No complaints again. All we saw were happy guests like us, icluding the couple who stay at AKWA twice a year. Well done Tim and Lee!! I will be back again!

"What a Find!!"
What a wonderful surprise I had when I literally stumbled over this fabulous guest house earlier this year. Having now completed my 4th stay and planning a 5th visit later this month I feel I should share the secret with fellow travelers. This has to be the best value for money accommodation in Koh Samui and possibly even Thailand. A big call I know but Tim and his team has really though through their business model and have keenly differentiated themselves in what is a crowded market. As a result they have put together an eclectic and somewhat funky accommodation experience that is fun for couples, individuals and families. Big value breakfasts and a huge selection of pizzas, hamburgers and cocktails means there is something in it for everyone. Those wanting something more serious will also find it on the extensive menu. Even room service is available for those nights where you wish to dine in and watch a DVD from his comprehensive library. No task is too much trouble for Tim and his thorough knowledge of Samui is invaluable for planning the next day trip or adventure. Absolutely recommended.

Pop-art guestrooms are decorated with giant paintings adorning the walls, chairs in the shape of giant hands, and kitschy lamps. What really creates the impression you are staying in someone's bedroom are the smaller details: a collection of books, including Thai travel guidebooks, Thai language manuals, and easy reading beach novels; a few DVD's atop the TV; colorful beach towels; and cozy beds covered with a dozen pillows and even a stuffed animal. Bathrooms are similarly accoutered. Penthouse room features a huge terrace with two teak sun beds, out door dinning, a lazy banana bed with sweeping 180 degree view and, just indoors, a private bath tub overlooking the terrace towards Chaweng Beach. Breakfasts are arguably the best on the island, although other meals are quite decent as well, and the vibe in the lobby bar/restaurant is friendly and comfortable."

Had 5 fabulous nights at Akwa. Going back at Christmas with 3 friends, for 2 weeks, and can hardly wait. Tim and the staff are definately the best hosts one could ask for. I was in a standard room which was decorated, very well and was nice and vibrant.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was terrific and as a single traveller certainly got to meet lot's of people. I highly recommend Akwa.

After my Friend left Koh Samui I was a single Female Travelling solo, I booked into Akwa for 2 nights and after experiencing the service, great rooms, I ended up staying 9 nights. Akwa was by far one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had from a Holiday. The rooms were amazing, (not 5 star) but so clean; Feather pillows, Quilt, great sheets, Air Con, Hot water, and the pop art work make rooms funky. The staff, service and food made my stay even more enjoyable. Timothy who is the owner of Akwa was so helpful and provided me with travel ideas to do around the island, and took me to lunch at a local Restaurant with some other of his Thai fiends and little Kids which was great as I was solo. As I love cats he introduced me to his 3 Cats he brought all the way from Australia. He trys very hard to go out of his way to help any and everyone he comes into contact with, as I saw he is not always successful as many people demand things which just are not available either on a small island like Samui or a guesthouse. For me it was the little things, tiny expressions that happened at Akwa. After my friend left all of a sudden Roses appeared in my room to cheer me up, on the last day I ran out of Cash and Tim gave me some for a taxi and to get around the airport in Bangkok, that’s care and service. As I extended my stay I had to move around the various hotel buildings (there are 3, and they are all close to each other) due to it being so popular, so I saw most of the rooms. The staff is fantastic, very friendly and polite and willing to help with any request. The little touches like dvds and a player, books to borrow, clean modern bathrooms (sometime small). Any one that considers Akwa have to realise Akwa is not a beach resort - like cocktails by the pool. The Beach is across the road and very very beautiful, I did get a great tan! Akwa is near by lots and lots of restaurants, bars, markets and shops, it is not right in the heart of the "action" (& noise) of Chaweng Central (like Green Mango) although it is an easy walk, or you can take a taxi bus, or a real taxi to these areas. The Deluxe rooms won't disappoint you, and the Standard Rooms are almost up there with the Deluxe. In fact for the price, they're one of the best rooms going in Chaweng. Tim's meticulousness and obsession with clean, service, food and care shine through. No cheap skin peeling bar soap and dandruff-inducing bottles of cheap shampoo. Instead you'll appreciate the rose glycerine soap's fruity aromas and refresh yourself with quality shampoo from the conveniently placed, tastefully Akwa branded dispenser along with 4 other types of products in the bathroom. There is a sense of family at Akwa. If you need any advice, or even just fancy a chat Tim and the rest of the Akwa team are brilliant. They know anything and everything you could ever want to know about Samui. Tim even went so far as to help me with a cash issue as I had lost my wallet. He was able to lend me some money whilst my Father wired money to his account. Now that would not happen in a 5 Star hotel. All in all, an absolutely fantastic experience-there is nothing I can fault. Location is great, on the quiet end of Chaweng. Food at Akwa was delicious and good value for money.
